About Program
The Foundation believes that having a wish fulfilled brings with it a sense of accomplishment, happiness and positivity which helps the little warriors face their challenges with renewed vigour and strengthens their hope of a bright future. Eligibility criteria: i) Referral by a Certified doctor to initiate the wish-granting process. ii) A child with a life-threatening medical condition, in the age group of 3-18 years. iii) No wish granted to the same child earlier. "People from professions as diverse as the armed forces and celebrities, collaborate with Make-A-Wish to make these kids’ wishes come true. There are 4 wish categories — (i) Wish to Be - Includes being a Doctor, Police Officer, Teacher, etc. (ii) Wish to Have - Includes giving any of the following items to the child, depending on his/her wish: Bicycle, cell phone, video game, cricket kit, doll kit, shopping spree. (iii) Wish to Meet - Usually involves meeting a celebrity. (iv) Wish to Go - Could be an amusement park, mountains, beach, natural beauty, and so on. Process: i) Referral of a child. ii) Volunteers meeting the parents and the wish child. iii) Recording the wish after interaction with the wish child. iv) Wish fulfilment process. v) Wish granting function. The NGO volunteers first meet with the child informally and get to know his likes and preferences. Based on their interactions, the team at Make-A-Wish decides which is that one wish which if fulfilled would bring greatest joy to the child and his family. The entire process of Wish Granting is carried out by the team, taking into confidence the child's family, without the child even coming to know of it until the day of Wish Granting."
